artistBIZ is ready!

so excited to launch this program for emerging artists!

When I finished my program at the Ontario College of Art I was left wondering what to do next and how to go about it to launch my career. Eventually I was awarded a mentorship opportunity with the Xanadu Gallery in Arizona. The program gave me all the tools to plan, brand, price my art, strategize my direction and move forward. That's what artistBIZ is all about — it will give emerging artists the information, an action plan and mentoring by professionals that know their way around planning, promoting and establishing a career.

There is no need for artists to live the 'starving and struggling' persona. The education investment made to learn how to create art must be augmented with how to run their art business. Art is a business and if those skills are neglected, well, the rest of their story will only be available in their personal memoires. For too long this side of an artist's career has been lacking in our education system. We can fill this gap while the system tries to catch up... An artist's gift to communicate through art should be shared and revered.

The arts community must support each other and give a hand up when required. This program is the first step to enable, support and move emerging artists forward. Established artists recognize that other artists aren't their competition with collectors. No two artists produce the exact same piece of art and customers like a variety of art — someone that likes my paintings won't necessarily like that of another artist and vice versa. I personally can appreciate many pieces of art even if I would not add them to my own collection. Does it mean I don't want the collector to buy it? No. I want people to live with art they love and if mine doesn't fit the bill? support another artist.  We all benefit when art is appreciated and accepted.

Supporting my peer group and growing a stronger community of artists and the arts industry is part of the vision I have for studio k2. It all embodies the idea that we all can "Live the power of art."©
