Jill Birks creates spontaneous abstracts by layering, glazing and scraping achieving a dynamic balance of color, line and shape. She incorporates paints and inks inherited from her mother and aunt, which serve as a legacy of inspiration.
Her works are intuitive focusing on grounded reflections of the woods of Ancaster and delving into a deeper consideration of the Earth’s natural power and wonder. This leads to themes of endless possibilities as humanity continues its exploration of the universe.
Jill studied literature, then fine art before she began her career as a scenic painter and muralist. With extensive professional experience, her art can be found in casinos, hotels and restaurants in Canada and the United States. She has now transitioned from commission projects to focus on her personal, evocative abstracts.
