Play days!
Remember those days at school when you didn’t have to sit at your desk all day, take notes, work on lessons? There was a euphoric feeling of freedom to the day that we looked forward to, were excited to participate in and probably still have memories of today. I’m a firm believer in work hard, play hard and it can be within your company too.
When I had a team in an ad agency we used to do tourist-days exploring the local city attractions that many only did (if ever) when they had out-of-town company. We had champagne breakfasts, did a skate at the Harbourfront rink, took the hop-on hop-off bus around the city, went to the Science Centre and ended with a meal at a local hot-spot. Years later I ran into a former employee that said we ruined her for any other companies she had worked for.
What if instead of a take a kid to work day you took or sent a team-member on a play day?
should we bring back ringing a bell, taking a recess, have everyone stand up and dance?!
